I had Tom Drexler out to price a leaky main shut off. They were quick and courteous, but also quick to price $378. Also to try and get me to bite on a new water heater. I called Lawrence V Lewis and he asked me to describe the problem. Then he said he was very confident I could fix it myself by tightening the packing nut on the side of the valve. If that didn't work he could replace it for $179! I don't like the fact that he charges $55 just to come out but I would think it's worth it. I didn't actually have him come out (yet) but I was very impressed with the service I received over the phone. The plumber from Tom Drexler didn't mention anything about tightening the packing nut. So either he didn't know or he rather overprice a repair. C'mon Man! Lawrence seems like a knowledgable plumber who will shoot you straight.
